Natural Edge In Balance
“Natural Edge In Balance”
Materials: Spaltled Alder, Walnut and Granite
Dimensions: 70” x 16” x 36”
This Alder plank was thrown into a firewood pile at a local wood mill because it checked (cracked) I saw its potential and decided to allow it to spalt (partially rot) for a year. Spalting is the process of controlled rotting that is shown on the plank as the fine black lines. To hold the plank from splitting further I incorporated these very unique walnut keys and and repeated the design curve throughout the piece. The angular Granite stone counters the smooth curves of the table and anchors the base.
