Burns Jennings Custom Art Furniture started business in 1999 and is located on tranquil Bowen Island, one hour from Vancouver and Whistler, British Columbia. Jennings, a graduate from the University of Victoria with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Visual Arts and Environmental Studies, uses his background to design and build high quality, environmentally responsible furniture. Jennings carefully considers form and function and uses distinctive materials to enhance all furniture styles. The materials, some locally harvested and milled, others recycled, found or reclaimed combined with quality joinery help produce inspired pieces of functional art furniture. Burns works collaboratively with clients to design pieces to suit their unique aesthetic. The quality of his craftsmanship, attention to detail, and passion for solid design will be evident upon delivery.
As a keen observer of the natural environment and built forms around me, I am often drawn to the way one inspires the other. I strive to design furniture that will inspire private and public spaces leaving people feeling more creative and contented. I am a University of Victoria graduate with a Double Major in Visual Arts and Environmental Studies. I use my educational background to design fine furniture incorporating environmentally superior materials and practices. As an artist I am always growing and exploring the connections between form and function. I am inspired to create visually impactful pieces of functional art that incorporate appealing forms using locally harvested or found materials and utilize traditional and modern joinery techniques. The process from the design stage through the final construction is often fluid where the materials and construction processes influence the final result. This fluid design process allows me to explore more options and work with the material to expose its natural beauty. I work in many styles from driftwood sculptures to contemporary clean inspired lines. I enjoy working directly with clients to understand their preferences and incorporate them effectively into the design. My hope is that my work will reflect my clients’ unique aesthetics, and will be treasured for generations.
