Testimonials

We are very happy with the door the Burns designed and built for the main entrance to our home.  With a mix of hand crafted wood and glass design, it is a unique work of art as well as a well functioning door.  It makes a huge difference to our experience of home to have such a beautiful door.  Burns was receptive, reliable and creative person to work with – including our ideas in the project and also bringing his own creativity and experience. We highly recommend working with Burns Jennings.

“Thank you Burns for having your exceptional and unique custom art furniture in our gallery in the recent exhibition, “The Art of the Landscape” at the Ferry Building Gallery.

Your work speaks to the natural landscape of the West-coast  and I am in awe of the  way in which you juxtapose the various types and shapes of wood and stone to create truly brilliant one-of-a-kind furniture.

Our gallery patrons and the visiting public very much admired and appreciated your designs and craftsmanship”.

Burns has created four pieces of custom art furniture for my wife and I.  We are absolutely delighted with each piece. The process of designing the pieces with Burns was very satisfying and, frankly, a lot of fun. Burns and I used Facetime on our phones to setup a video link between my home in Nanaimo and Burn’s workshop on Bowen Island. Burns could see the space where the piece was going to be placed and was able to absorb and incorporate that into his design. I was able to watch the piece progress and offer feedback as if I was standing in his shop. Burns made sure that every detail was considered. The final products are a seamless blend of form and function. We have spent a considerable amount of time admiring the beautiful quality of the craftsmanship, but the really cool thing is that the rooms in which these pieces live “feel” better. I guess that is the art part.  If you are looking for beautiful and organic custom art furniture created in a timely and consultative manner, Burns is the artist for you. Gotta have a Burns Jennings!

Burns has been a delight to work with. He listened carefully as we described what we wanted. He worked collaboratively with us in the design of the pieces, offering creative suggestions that drew on his strong sense of design. His craftsmanship is clearly evident in the pieces he created. And he provided clear instructions about how to care for those pieces so we can enjoy them for years to come. We are very pleased, and recommend Burns without any hesitations.

We first hired Burns to custom-build a mantle piece for a challenging corner containing a gas fire-place. The results were stylish and functional! When we began looking for a coffee table and an entrance ‘closet’ for our newly renovated home, we were unable to find anything interesting within our price range. Burns was, once again, able to design two gorgeous pieces which are both functional and artistic. It was a pleasure working with an artist who could listen to our wish-list and make it happen at a price that worked for us! I highly recommend Burns and Cornice Furniture if you would like fine furnishings to suit the style of your home.

I had the pleasure of working with Burns on a large (8500 sq. ft.) comprehensive residential renovation project where he worked directly with interior designers, contractors, homeowners and myself as the project designer. Burns brought professionalism to every discussion and produced exceptional quality built-ins, furniture and mill work. I recently revisited the home (6 years later) and was very pleased to see that all of Cornice Furniture’s work, despite some being exposed to harsh climatic pressures is still as beautiful as the day it was built. Burns has the ability to seamlessly work with others while coordinating design furnishing that compliment the overall design vision. I look forward to any opportunity to work with burns in the future and see his involvement as an asset in all regards for supplying custom cabinetry and furniture.

Burns is an artist. He made a thick yellow cedar exterior table with live edges, and an interior dining table. Both of them were custom pieces. Burns’ work has wow factor. As well as being beautiful, the pieces are also rock solid, functional, durable.

Burns took our very rough, initial idea for what we wanted for side tables and presented us with beautiful pieces of furniture that were not only functional, but pieces of art. Every step of the way Burns was patient and personable with us and provided insight that was invaluable in creating something we truly love. He has a gift for furniture design and is truly passionate about the craftmanship he creates.

We’ve had an excellent experience working with Burns. He had a great ability to combine an artistic vision with our practical needs, make suggestions as well as hear our wants/needs/limitations, and in the end deliver a product that we absolutely love! He completed the projects with the utmost professionalism and timeliness and his craftsmanship is superb!

My name is Daniel Parke, and I am principal of Salal Architecture, a small design oriented architecture firm based on Bowen Island, near Vancouver. I have known Burns for over 3 years. I initially worked with him in the design and construction of his own house, and he has also built custom millwork and furniture in my own home.
I always enjoy working with Burns. He is a true craftsman. I meet many different trades on job sites, and Burns is one of a rare breed of highly talented craftsmen who are increasingly difficult to find. He is technically very good with wood, he understands design and aesthetics, is very detailed oriented, is very current with issues around sustainability, is very professional and is a great communicator.
I have no hesitation in recommending Burns Jennings.
Sincerely,
Daniel Parke, MAIBC
